Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has expressed confidence that Ukraine can defeat Russia with the help of the West by the end of this year. During his visit to Berlin, he thanked Germany for its significant military and economic support, saying that Germany was the second largest contributor to Ukraine after the US.
Zelenskiy's comments came after a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during which a new aid package was announced. The package includes Leopard battle tanks, armoured infantry fighting vehicles, and four new air defence systems. This is seen as a significant boost to Ukraine's military capabilities.
When asked if Ukraine now has sufficient weapons to launch its long-awaited counteroffensive, Zelenskiy joked that it would take just one more foreign trip to secure enough weapons. However, the situation on the ground remains highly volatile, and it is unclear whether Ukraine can prevail in a direct military confrontation with Russia.
